Chiang Mai II

Chiang Mai II

Muay Thai boxing is very popular in Thailand and we finally got around to seeing some. It was quite brutal to watch with two of the fights ending in knock outs. I don't think it's something I'd do again but it was interesting.

Bua Tong Sticky Waterfalls

Just north of Chiang Mai are these waterfalls where due to the high level of minerals in the water, a thick layer of calcium has built up. This creates a hard rough surface which can easily be walked on meaning that you can literally climb up the falls.

The force of the water was much stronger than it looked. I felt like you'd probably not be allowed to walk all over something like this in most places, but it did feel solid and didn't appear to be any worse for wear from all the people walking on it.

The Chiang Mai region is very green.

These big lotus leaves seemed to repel the rainwater.

One thing I've noticed recently in Thailand is tech style product naming seems to have jumped into food products. Things like "next gen pizza" were common but this was the most rediculous example.

Our Mae Hong Son road trip was a loop so we ended up back at Chiang Mai at the end for a couple of nights. Much of what Chiang Mai is known for is outside of the city and we still has the car so were able to explore a bit.

It's started to feel like we've really reached the end of the tourist season now with lots of things being closed without warning, and a lot more rain around. This will be the last image post from Thailand, although I'll wrote some proper posts soon.
